Sutton Hike

Annemarie and Bill did the Sutton Trails with me today, beautiful day!

Florence Pocket Saltmarsh

Florence Veteran's Park just west of the 

Siuslaw River Bridge hosts a pocket saltmarsh

Gumweed Grindelia integrifolia


Pickleweed or Glasswort  Salicornia virginica

is a common estuary plant.


Seaside Plantain Plantago maritima is also 

found on sea bluffs.

Jaumea  Jaumea carnosa is common in tidal areas 

Owl Clover  Castilleja ambigua is found in salt

marshes, unlike it's orange-red cousin

Coast Paintbrush which is found on sea cliffs

Interpretive Birding

I led a group of Forest Service Seasonal Interpreters

for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area on

a bird walk at Lagoon Trail, Siltcoos Outlet.

Do I look like I know what I'm talking about?

We had a great time and even saw some birds!

Birding up the coast

Mystery place....can anyone guess?

Pinnacle and Parrot Rocks off Heceta Head.

I spent some time up north today checking out

the seabirds. I did find Common Murre and

Cormorant chicks as well as Pigeon Guillemots

nesting.
